How to Measure Bra Size at Home
Step 1: Measure Your Band Size
Stand naturally and wrap the tape measure snugly around your rib cage, directly underneath your bust where the bra band normally sits. Make sure the tape is completely level all the way around your back and front. Pull the tape so it feels very snug—this mimics the support a good bra band provides.
Write down the number in inches. If you land on an even number, this is your band size. If you land on an odd number, round up to the next even whole number. For example, if you measure 33 inches, your band size is a 34. If you measure 34 inches, your band size is a 34.
Step 2: Measure Your Cup Size
Next, loosely wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your bust (typically right at the nipple line). Again, check the mirror to ensure the tape measure is perfectly straight and parallel to the floor across your back. Unlike the band measurement, do not pull the tape tight. It should rest lightly against your body. Write down this number in inches. This is your bust measurement.
Step 3: Calculate Your Bra Size
Now, it is time to calculate your bra and cup size using simple math. To determine your cup size, subtract your band size (from Step 1) from your bust measurement (from Step 2).
The difference in inches translates directly to your cup letter:
A difference of 1 inch = A cup
A difference of 2 inches = B cup
A difference of 3 inches = C cup
A difference of 4 inches = D cup
A difference of 5 inches = DD cup
A difference of 6 inches = DDD (or F) cup
A difference of 7 inches = G cup
Example Calculation: Let's say your snug band measurement is 36 inches, and your bust measurement is 39 inches. 39 (bust) - 36 (band) = 3. A difference of 3 inches means a C cup. Therefore, your ideal bra size is a 36C.
