Its hinged body closes around the blade, while locking tabs, internal rubber retention bumpers and a blade heel stop help keep the knife positioned during storage and transport. The enclosure covers the cutting edge and tip to help reduce contact with surrounding utensils and equipment. Check the fit before use: blade length must be no more than 4 inches and heel width no more than 5/8 inch. The heel is the rear portion of the blade near the handle. Blade thickness, curvature and overall shape also affect compatibility. Confirm that the blade sits correctly and the guard closes and locks without forcing it. The 4-inch designation refers to blade capacity, not the overall exterior dimensions of the guard. Made from BPA-free polypropylene, the clear version has a frosted, translucent appearance for blade identification. The guard is dishwasher safe.
