Types of Makeup Combination Palettes

There are several different types of makeup combination palettes available, and will help you create a look for separate parts of your face.

Eyeshadow palettes are a popular pick. The first step to knowing how to use an eyeshadow palette is to understand your eye shape and the areas around your eye that can benefit from shadow.

These areas include the brow bone, crease, the area above the crease, outer lid, middle lid, inner lid, lower waterline, outer lower lash line, and inner lower lash line. Eye shapes include close-set, almond, deep-set, downturned, hooded, and protruding.

For those with close-set eyes, use light colors on the inner corners of your eyes. Bring in some dark colors along the outer corners to balance the look, and complete it by lining and applying mascara.

Almond eyes are essentially perfectly proportioned, so any makeup plan will work!

Deep-set eyes work best with light colors on the entire lid, followed by a deeper color in your crease. The darker the color, the deeper the look. Make sure the colors are blended together, no matter how deep you decide to take the look!

If you have downturned eyes, focus on adding color along the entire lid and the outer crease. Top it off eyeliner on the upper lid, and add a small upturned flick at the end for a touch of elevation!

Hooded eyes are ones that have a fold of skin that hangs over your crease. Matte colors work best with this eye type. Use light eye shadow along your lid, but gradually go darker along your crease. Bring your shadow up a little higher than normal to ensure the look is blended to perfection.

Protruding eyes extend out a bit from your face, and are best accentuated with darker, matte colors around your eyes.
Contour palettes are another option, and are pretty simple to use. Whereas eyeshadow palettes need some knowledge and planning, contour palettes come with a light, medium, and dark shade. Some options come with in-between shades, too.

Contour colors are used by blending one of the darker shades around the upper edge of your forehead, down the sides of your nose, along the contour of your cheeks, and on the bottom edge of your jawbone. The lighter contour color will highlight areas such as the space under your eyes, the forehead, the space between your eyebrows, the bridge of your nose, and above your cheekbones.

Other palette types to look for include highlighter palettes, color-correcting palettes, blush palettes, and eyebrow palettes.
