What is a Quilt?
A traditional quilt consists of three layers: a woven cloth top, inner batting, and a woven bottom. While the top layer fabrics are stitched together into complex patterns, the bottom layer is typically a solid piece of fabric. The batting is generally made up of wool or down. Each layer of the quilt is thin and made from breathable fabric, therefore making a quilt a lightweight option or alternative to a weighted blanket.
What is the Difference Between Quilts & Coverlets?
Quilts and coverlets are a lighter bedding option with a thinner fill. They are usually held together with intricate stitching that provides just as much style as the print itself. They're a great choice because they offer a layered look with the addition of blankets and comforters for customized warmth and style. But despite their similarities, there are a few slight differences between the two.
Quilts While they are generally used along with a sheet or blanket, quilts can also be layered for decorative purposes. Whether you need lighter quilts for warm weather or you prefer layering up coverlets when cool temperatures hit, Kohl's can help you find the colors and patterns you want. Looking to revamp your bedroom's look or just switch out your bedding for the seasons? You'll find a wide selection of stripes, florals and geometric prints, as well as classic quilt patterns. | Coverlets A coverlet, on the other hand, is a decorative layer that is placed over thicker bedspreads. Consider a coverlet as an extension of your bed. Their thin batting layer makes them a great choice as a stand-alone bed covering or as throws for a sofa. Whether you prefer the style of a quilt or coverlet, we carry a collection of both trendy and traditional quilts and coverlets. |
Quilt Sizes
Quilts come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so there isn't a one size fits all. However, you can use these sizes as a general guide:

Types of Quilts
In addition to the size, it's important to understand the type of filling in a quilt. Do you prefer lighter covers? Are you a hot or cold sleeper? It all comes down to your personal choice and preferences. If you have allergies or asthma, that should also be taken into consideration. Let's take a look at a few different types of quilt fillings:
- Microfiber Quilts: With a lofty and plump style that looks great on beds, microfiber quilts are a great alternative to natural fill quilts. Not only are they suitable for cold sleepers, but they're also extremely durable and easy to care for.
- Cotton Quilts: Cotton is a natural, breathable fiber that works best for hot sleepers. Renowned for its comfort, you're sure to enjoy a full night's rest.
- Wool Quilts: Soft and cozy, this type of fabric is breathable and helps regulate your body temperature. So, when you need to stay warm during the winter or cool in the summertime, wool is an excellent choice for all sleepers. It's also naturally hypoallergenic, making it suitable for those with allergies and asthma.
