Visit Kohl’s on the banks of the mighty Olentangy

Kohl’s Olentangy is located in the Riverview neighborhood right in the heart of Buckeye Country, just north of the University District and easily accessible from Downtown, Worthington, North Linden and Clintonville.

The store sits by itself on the western bank of the Olentangy River between it and Olentangy River Road, just south of Slyh Run. The river, the store and the road’s name is an English translation of the Lenape word for “river of the red face paint.”

The name doesn’t actually describe the river. It was the result of a legislative mishap when the 1833 Ohio General Assembly, in an attempt to restore the names of water ways to their original, native forms, mixed it up with the Big Darby Creek, a different offshoot of the Scioto River. It was meant to be called Keenhongsheconsepung, which translates to Whetstone River, so named because of shale deposits found on its shores.
