Established in the early 1700s as a logging community, Piscataway Township is the current home of South Plainfield Kohl's. South Plainfield, NJ (then known as two separate hamlets, Samptown and Brooklyn), played unwilling host to occupying British troops during the American Revolution. Later, these hamlets' proximity to Plainfield and a boom in industry led to the establishment of South Plainfield, NJ, which was officially incorporated in 1926. Like much of the country, South Plainfield suffered during the Great Depression, however this rural farming community survived and began to attract industry as well as housing interests after World War II. Today this New Jersey city is a thriving suburban community.
