Rated 2 out of 5 by from The mixer works well, the beater flakes off I love the mixer, but I would recommend getting an after-market beater blade (and dough hook, really) that is not coated in this material. It chips and flakes off. To give you an idea, the bottom of my beater has worn away and upper edges are flaking off. To make matters works, my dough hook is flaking away around the top, not where it would get rubbed putting it on the machine, but the outside edge. This is ending up in my batter, which is disturbing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Paddle coating chips I, too, have had my paddles crack and flake. I have two paddles and the same thing has happened to both of them. I am disappointed that I need to buy replacement paddles - but I do love the mixer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dangerous - chips into batter The machine itself is beautiful, this particular beater is awful. The white coating is chipping off. I didn't notice right away - having horror thoughts about the "crunchy" thing in the last cake I made. Was it eggshell.. or... this??? Anyway trying to find a replacement has been a real pain - lots of places that don't seem to ship to new zealand. Would really like to buy a stainless steel one but as far as I can work out those are only for other models, not the KS150. Its a shame because I need to buy another one of these inferior beater heads to keep using the overall great machine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Paddle/white plastic coated for model KSM90 My mixer paddle started chipping after only a few uses. I have only used the stainless steel bowl that came with the mixer and then a few years ago Kitchen Aid came out with a set of two plastic mixing bowls which I have also used, so nothing other then Kitchenaid bowls and yet the paddle still chips. Also only hand washed always. Why is t something that belongs to a workhorse machine so badly made??? Stainless steel would be ideal. Do you stand behind this paddle for replacement purposes? Thank you for your anticipated help.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from flat beater I must say my KitchenAid mixer changed my life in the kitchen! I use it for everything I possibly can! I never put the parts in the dishwasher, yet the enamel is chipping off of the flat beater...the beater I use almost daily. This renders the mixer useless, I am afraid of the next chip going into food I am making. I cannot recommend this product until the flat beater is made to last... Then it will be the perfect addition to any kitchen! I would actually like to purchase one for our daughter as a wedding gift...if the beater is improved. I wonder if it can be replaced without cost, as it is obviously a flaw??

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Coating chips off into batter! MAJOR FAIL!!! I have used my mixer less than 10 times and hand wash the paddle immediately after each use. Today the coating was chipping off the paddle into my batter. I hesitate to buy another because apparently KA mixer paddles chip regularly (according to other reviewers) and KA ignores the problem by not offering a stainless steel version. You'd think with over 10x the number of 1-star reviews to 5-star reviews the company would get the point and work to remedy this situation. I guess coming up with more mixer colors is more important than addressing the quality of the main mixer part. Completely disappointed with Kitchenaid at this point.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Coating will chip and peel off The coating on my original beater peeled badly, but I believed it was from age and dishwasher use. After finishing a batch of cookies,I noticed the newer replacement blade, of which I hand washed, had chipped. I sadly tossed my cookie batter. I was going to switch to the uncoated beater, but they have even worse reviews. This was a very expensive mixer when purchased, so I won't stop using it. But, I will closely inspect the beater prior to each time I use it and just plan on replacing it regurarly. Hope I can buy some at a bargain, because I love the actual mixer and wisk attachment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Coating flakes My husband gave me my kitchen aid mixer about 2 years ago for Christmas. I have the original beater attachment and I refuse to use it. After a few months of owning it the coating began falling off, ruining several recipes along the way. I have to purchase another beater attachment so I can properly make my recipes. For the cost of the mixer the attachments should last a lot longer than a few months to a year or two. The mixer itself works great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mixer is high quality but beater eithe chips or wears The Artisan Mixer is of high quality and very reliable I am a mechanical engineer and my wife and daughter use the mixer occassionally but always with great results. The beater though has chipped or worn out after approximately 20 uses. Not sure if an adjustment is needed, if the coating is not the correct composite of the bowl does not lock into the correct height. The concern is that no one knows who ate the chips from the beater. I would hope the root cause is understood so that a solution can be implemented.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old one last a life time ! I've had my mixer for 37 yrs. and love it . Wouldn't bake with out it . My flat beater has not chipped at all and I wanted to purchase a new beater with the rubber attachment on it but you don't seem to offer one for my model k5ss .And after reading the reviews for the new ones I think I'll just stick to my old reliable one . Maybe Kitchen Aid should go back to making them the way they used to 30 yrs. ago !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Coating is chipping I love my KitchenAid stand mixer except that, like others, the paddle attachment's coating is chipping. I have found small pieces in my batters (thankfully, before baking!). I was hoping to get a chrome version but I see none is available. Why does it need to be coated? I'd love another option. This is such a bummer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from White Enamel Chipping Off Too I've had the mixer for years and it's always worked fine. The flat beater, however, is another story. I came here looking to buy a new one since mine has had the enamel chip off (I wonder if I fed that to my family or if it fell off somewhere else). But then I see all these other reviews with the same problem. How can Kitchen Aid continue selling this flat beater with this clear problem? It's not like I use the mixer every day, or every week, or every month...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beater problems... I LOVE LOVE LOVE my stand mixer and it gets used all the time! I love it so much that all 3 of my daughters also have and use one...but the beater just can't...take a beating to well. I have replaced mine before and am ready to order another one! It chips, and has multiple spots where it has come off...I would love a stainless steel one that does NOT need replacing every few years..my mixer is 20 years old!! So I will order a new beater in a few minutes because I STILL will use it ...a lot!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beater chipped in the cookie dough spoiled the whole batch I actually like the mixer but the flat beater has been chipping since we got it. I cannot believe something so expensive has such a cheaply made beater attachment. To replace the part is not only EXPENSIVE when you include shipping but you have to continue replacing it. Why can't it come in stainless steel?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Guess I am not the only one.... I came to this site to try and find a replacement flat beater...the white coating is flaking off on mine- started at the top and now moving downward. (Also need to replace the whisk that came apart and now makes an awful noise when I use it). I stopped using it completely fearing paint chips ending up in my baking. I have put this in the dishwasher, but it gets hand washed most of the time (pretty easy to clean). Not sure I want to buy it again now seeing that everyone is having the same issue! Otherwise, I LOVE my mixer and shopping around for other attachments presently.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tilt-Head Coated Flat Beater Need to replace the beater due to the fact the powder coating is chipping off on the sides and bottom of the beater. I read the all the reviews about the beater with the powder coating coming off and was very much surprised to see all the other comments regarding the same identical issue I am experiencing. With Kitchen Aide experiencing the identical issue on the beater why would you not manufacturer a stainless steel beater or at least some other type of metal or coating that would last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent function, but coating cracks and peels Love this beater, but after about 6 years, the coating cracked and started chipping off at the attachment site. This beater came with my Artisan mixer. I used it like crazy and love this beater! Unfortunately it started to crack and then started chipping after about 6 years of use. I never put it in the dishwasher. I'm disappointed in the cracking and chipping, but I will, definitely get a new one, and would recommend to a friend with the warning of this concern.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from White chipping off I use my standmixer very often, I bake a lot! This is my second beater and the same thing happened, the coating chipped off. I have adjusted my mixer just as the video has said to do. (with dime) My mixer is model #KSM90AC, I need to replace the flat beater again. Where do I purchase it? Not happy to have to do this the third time!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unfortunately, I agree... Unfortunately, I agree with many of the other reviewers. I really like the mixer. We use it all the time - at least once per week. Its easy to use, appears durable and is easy to clean. We've actually been considering purchasing the commercial model. However, the tilt-head coated flat beater is definitely the weak link in the chain. The plastic cover has already started flaking off of our beater too. I'm not sure if its planned obsolesce or maybe we shouldn't have washed it in the dishwasher, but it just isn't durable. Maybe they are supposed to wear out so you have to keep buying them. Its disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Coating chipped off We found what appeared to be egg shells in a cake recently; I accused my husband of carelessly dropping in the shells when he mixed it. It wasn't until later that we discovered the chipped flat beater. Unfortunately, some family members did eat the chips! I am surprised and disappointed that this quality mixer has this type of defect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Product I have purchased 3 different Coated Flat Beaters over the past few years. The 1st one came with the machine itself & was the one that lasted the longest; it was always handwashed with care. I then purchased 2 more coated flat beathers at the same time. Each one began chipping after just a few uses. This was clearly very disappointing. I did read all of the reviews before purchasing the replacements, but, I guess I was hoping that I would get lucky. There is clearly a design flaw & it looks like there is a design flaw with the burnished flat beater, as well . I hope that the designers @ KitchenAid will truly listen to our feedback. Something needs to change! Disappointed in Maryland!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still works well I've had my mixer for at least 15 yrs. My coated beater is fine, but I always hand wash it. Could it be the dishwasher is causing the issue of flaking off, even though it says dishwasher safe? But on another note, I purchased the new KA coated beater (KFEST) with the silicone flex on the edge of the beater (not shown on this site?) It's supposed to scrape the sides better so you don't have to stop as often. Well, it makes the wet ingredients fly out the bowl, and even after incorporated say for frosting, the mixture creeps up the side of the bowl to the top. I think I scrape more with the new one. I'm not a fan, so I may return it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chipping coating I really like using my stand mixer. However, the white coating on the flat beater bar and also on the dough hook is chipping off. I have never washed it in the dishwasher, always by hand and dry it immediately. I am hesitant to pay for a replacement in case the same thing happens. Why isn't there one made of stainless steel? Perhaps there should be a recall for these defective parts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Has anyone found a good third party replacement? Our mixer is great, this blade... not so much. I was wondering if Kitchenaid has fixed the issue with the chipping, or if anyone has found a third party that makes a replacement that doesn't chip so easily?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from white beater is chipping and pealing I do love the mixer and the other attachments which are not coated in white but the beater is chipping and now I think it must be in the things I have been making. I went on line to order another one but see it is only offering the white one again. Why doesn't it come in stainless steel like the other attachments. Don't want to choke on my baking by swallowing a white piece of paint!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Had mine for 25 years now, and I came here to order another I too have faced the issue about the peeling, however I have owned this mixer for over 25 years. I came on the site to order another. I think the reason it's peeling now is due to wear and tear after 20+ years I think it held up pretty great. Note: When making anything with nuts or chocolate chips or anything hard, i.e. cookie dough, it is best to add last by hand, and not using the flat beater for everything. I promise this will help keep the flat beater from chipping or peeling.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Coating Chipping Off It works really well, but we're having the same problem as many others here that the coating is chipping off. I actually got online to try to order a replacement, but I'm hesitant if so many are having the same problem.
