Features of Glass Photo Frames
When talking about glass photo frames, the discussion usually centers around the glazing material or cover, which is the part of the frame that actually covers and protects the picture inside.
Covers typically are available in both glass and acrylic, so which option is the best for you? Let’s take a look.
Glass, while fragile, is still generally less likely to be scratched, and is easier to clean. However, it is significantly heavier than acrylic, meaning the frame can get quite heavy, even seeing its shape altered over time due to the weight.
For larger picture frames (one over 16” X 20”), the weight difference between a glass and acrylic cover can be significant, which is why glass is more frequently used for smaller picture frames.
Acrylic, as mentioned above, is lighter than glass in terms of weight. However, it can be scratched quite easily and should only be cleaned with a microfiber cloth. It’s also more expensive than glass, so the cost will factor into your purchase consideration. That said, acrylic is usually clearer than glass, since glass might actually have a green tint to it.
Ultimately, the decision is up to you, and both materials offer pros and cons.
Be sure to also find picture frames made of other materials, including metal picture frames, wood photo frames, and simple plastic frames.
