Stoneware is a nonporous, scratch- and chip-resistant and incredibly durable material, making it a popular choice for dinnerware. Stoneware is slightly heavier and thicker than china and porcelain but does not have the same level of strength.
Plastic can also be a great option if you’re looking for a budget-friendly alternative. You’ll save yourself the trouble of washing endless dishes after special events with elegant plastic Christmas plates.
Ceramic plates are perhaps the most common type of plate that people use on a daily basis. They’re a versatile option sure to last you year after year.
Table Setting Tips
Festive tableware is a perfect way to celebrate any season. You can balance bright colors and patterns with neutrals for a striking combination. Look for Christmas plates and dishes that have festive backgrounds and feature heartwarming holiday scenes.
How to Set a Table for the Holiday
The basic concept is fairly simple for informal lunches or dinners. There's really no need for frills in this case unless you want them. For laid-back dinners, one needs just a basic table setting: a placemat, cutlery (fork, knife and spoon), a dinner plate, a drinking glass and a napkin. Here’s how to set it up:
- Position a plate in the middle of the placemat.
- Take a folded napkin and lay it to the left of the plate.
- Put a dinner fork on top of the napkin.
- Place a knife closest to the plate (blade pointing in) and a spoon to the right of the plate.
- A water glass should be placed slightly above the plate, in between the plate and the utensils.
