My son is 2 1/2 and has developmental delays. I wasn't sure if he would be able to use this right away, but it looked so cute I bought it for Christmas. It is the best toy out of many he received this year. He loves to pretend to slice the veggies, fruits and bread, just like mommy. He needs some help to reassemble the pieces and line up the knife, but loves the satisfying crunch as the velcro gives way. When all the pieces are cut up, we put them in pots to make soup. This is a fun activity in the kitchen when I'm busy cooking and my son is busy dumping pieces in and out and stirring away at his pretend meal. Love this toy!

My title really says it all. I bought 3 different Melissa and Doug cutting food sets: this one, the other fruit set, and the sandwich set. All are VERY nice and I'd recommend, but this one is my favorite. If you can only buy one, get this one. This set is slightly larger in amount of pieces, and variety. The carrot is now cut lengthwise, too so the pieces are larger. These are also chunky enough, I don't worry about them around my 1 1/2 year old.

I purchased this toy for my youngest daughter who is 10 years old. She is at the stage of being too old for some things and still too young for others. She has always loved playing food and this toy fits the bill. I wish I had discovered Melissa & Doug toys before now!! They are well made, don't require batteries (just good old imagination) and they are timeless. She also received the sandwich making kit and long after she is done with these toys & outgrown them, I will be saving them for my grandkids. Toys like this never go out of style.

My 3 year old son received this gift for Christmas after falling in love with it during a recent Parents As Teachers home visit. He really wants to cut his food at the dinner table now, which doesn't always go so well for him. This toy lets him safely cut to his heart's content, while offering up opportunities for sensory integration (the cutting sound made by the velcro is very interesting to him) and imaginative play. His 2 year old brother enjoys sticking the foods together and taking them apart by hand- he's not so good with the knife just yet.
