Selecting the best type of furniture for a child takes patience, and you’ll want to choose items that will grow with them throughout their precious years. Read on to learn why our loft beds are the ideal solution for any bedroom.
Difference Between Loft Beds & Bunk Beds
Bunk beds and loft beds are most commonly seen in kids’ rooms, but they’re also widely placed inside dorm rooms, hostels, and a variety of other living spaces. Look out for bedding options with ladders or staircases that make it easy to get up and down them. Like bunk beds, loft beds are great space savers. However, there are a few notable differences between the two.
Loft beds consist of open space on the bottom of the structure rather than another bed. A loft bed frame elevates the mattress high off of the floor, leaving space for a desk, storage, seating, or other furniture. For even more storage options, try a staircase loft bed with drawers or a loft bed with shelves.
Bunk beds, on the other hand, are essentially two beds stacked on top of each other to make efficient use of vertical space. They give each child (or adult) their own sleeping space as opposed to making them share the same bed. These beds can be twin over twin, twin over full, or even full over full.
What Goes Underneath a Loft Bed?
Desk
A loft bed with a built-in desk and shelves has the space-saving functionality you’ve been looking for to maximize your child's bedroom. Many lofts are designed with a full-length surface as well as corner shelves, making it the ideal spot for your little ones to do their homework or work on projects.
Storage
You can also find loft beds with clever storage solutions such as drawers and cupboards. This is a great opportunity to place storage bins, baskets, and other storage essentials that will keep the room neat and clutter-free. Kids will also love to use this space as a play area.
Seating
If your loft bed has empty space beneath it, you can decide what you want to store there. A great option is a cozy sofa or armchair. Feel free to also place bean bag chairs or another convenient seating option. You can even put a second bed underneath a loft bed, making it easier for two people to share a small space.
What Ages are Loft Beds Suitable for?
Loft beds aren’t just for young kids. However, it’s recommended that only children ages five and up sleep in loft beds since they should be confident enough to climb up and down the ladder. While loft beds are most popular for children or teens, most adults can also sleep in total comfort in their very own full- or queen-size loft bed.
