I bought this for my 23 month old after she progressed pass the basic chunky puzzles where you just match the square to square or duck to duck. I thought this would be a good next step and it was! The puzzle make realistic chugga choo choo sounds when you have 10 of the 12 pieces in. She can already do it by herself after me showing her just a few times! It probably says age three and up because of the small piece involved in the battery area and the small puzzle handles, but my daughter has tossed the pieces and the board and everthing has been durable. Love this puzzle! Definently great first multi-piece puzzle for my almost two year old train lover.

Cute puzzle. This one is a little more difficult than the 3-4 piece baby puzzles, but not as hard as the 24 piece puzzles. It has picture guidance to help the child locate the appropriate spot for each piece. When the last piece is inserted the train whistles. This is fun, but there is also a problem. Once the child learns that you only need to remove one piece and put it back to make the whistle blow - well you get the idea. We always dump the whole thing to prevent repetitive noise.

as you finish putting the last puzzle in it plays the train sound which my grandson loves

My 2 1/2 year old son loves this puzzle. The sound is great. The only disappointment about this puzzle is that the last piece of the puzzle has to be in place before you hear the sound of the train. I was hoping that as you put in the pieces to the puzzle, it would make the sound.
