I tested this out over my fire pit and the cast iron version is just too heavy to hold over the fire while the food inside cooks so you have to place it on a log in the fire and just let it cook, but then the food inside burns because it's too close to the flames. And the poles are actually a weaker aluminum so the item just feels very unbalanced. Growing up, I used the aluminum version and now I wish I had purchased the aluminum one instead. Camp Chef makes one of these in aluminum, which would be much easier to hold over the fire as your food cooks. I don't recommend this in cast iron.
