Rated 2 out of 5 by Works well but unable to clean area under blade This is a handy tool that makes slicing easy and convenient to use. But, I bought it thinking the cleaning issues reported by other reviewers could not be that big of a deal. I was wrong. I have used it for 3 days straight for cucumber slices, potato slices for handmade chips, etc. and the gunk has already started to collect underneath where the blade is embedded. The problem is that you cannot fit anything into the small space behind the blade to clean it (not a knife, brush, toothpick...) and this will probably be unusable very soon due to the inability to clean the blade.. I looked online to see if there were any hints about cleaning it and could not find any. Kohl's has two Foodnetwork models - one in clear and one in black -- and it should replace both of them with other models that can be cleaned. 10/08/2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simple, but Fantastic! So we haven't used this a lot yet, but so far we are LOVING it. For the low price, you can't beat it. We've used it to slice up a cucumber (using the widest slice setting) and it worked so slick. Then, the greater "win" was using it to slice an onion for a recipe requiring thinly sliced onion. I cannot handle cutting onions, but I cut the ends off, peeled the outside, chopped it in half, and went to work on quickly and VERY thinly slicing the onion... it took about 2 minutes total! I was barely tearing up by the time I finished. I used the '2' setting and it was very thinly done and perfect. Saving me on onions alone is GREAT! I highly recommend this for a very simple, low-tech, well-made device to simplify cooking. 10/15/2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Impossible to thoroughly clean Got this for my birthday and was all excited about using it so we rushed home to make Scalloped Potatoes. It slices very well... neat, uniform pieces. However, when it comes to cleaning, expect a massive fail. Potato juice was captured on the underside of the blade where the metal and plastic are joined. No amount of soaking, brushing, prodding or prying could get all of juice to come out. All I managed to do was add dishwater to the problem. Wonder how much bacteria is growing in that starch rich environment? I do not recommend this product. 03/27/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by bacteria factory this is a good idea to have instead of using my mandeline. but there is NO way to clean the area just below the blade ! i noticed how disgusting it is. cannot imagine the bacteria. i soaked in bleach and used a bleached old toothbrush . the gunk from the potatoes and onions would NOT come out. i feel kohl's should refund my money for this purchase. would be a great product if i could clean out the bacteria ! 03/25/2015
