This is because you don't have to worry about accidentally cracking the beaker. I can see damage occurring to the plastic, but I hand wash so I do not have any issues with how much stress is being put on the plastic in a dishwasher.
I like the filter because the openings are fairly small and I get less grit with this press than other ones (Bodum) that I've tried. The filter is also one puck/piece so there are fewering pieces to deal with when cleaning.
That being said, the plastic does discolor fairly quickly with daily use. However, I always make a cup in the morning and don't clean or disassemble the press until washing dishes after dinner, so maybe cleaning the press immediately after use would prevent the beaker from yellowing.

I used it once - it fell apart. I returned it to the store for a full refund.

Bought this to travel with while living out of the country. I liked that the carafe was unbreakable but the press did not work well and the plunger mechanism broke after 2 months. The coffee it made was always cloudy with sediment even when we tried to buy the coarsest grind of coffee and the taste was slightly bitter.
