Bought this for our 20 month old daughter. She loves it and has a very vivid imagination. Plays with it non stop. She will rarely put it down. She has a nice wooden play kitchen and she practically lives in it. The best thing is these Melissa & Doug food sets are pretty inexpensive, a great gift idea for anyone who can't figure out what to buy a child and has limited funds but wants to get a gift the child will cherish, love and play with non stop. We are hoping that soon our daughter will own everything Melissa & Doug make. VERY awesome and interactive toy, it feeds the imagination and is much more educational than setting them in front of the TV with a DVD on.

My little one LOVES his "Birt-day cake". He got it for his 2nd birthday. He and the other kids present were far more interested in it than the remote control cars, tool bench, tractors, etc. that he received! They all wanted to open the cake and start cutting and decorating the cake. My little boy plays with it daily. He decorates the cake, sings Happy Birthday, blows "out" the candles, then cuts pieces for his toys and us to "eat". I would recommend this and the pizza party set to anyone with kids. In fact its what we are giving away to the 5 and under kids on our christmas list this year.

All three of my sons have enjoyed hours of play with this set. It is perfect for many different developmental levels. From 18 months on, my youngest has played "Tea Party" with this toy, while my other sons have played Birthday Party ( and who doesn't love a birthday party?). You can also use it to teach early math concepts such sharing and counting for young kids and fractions for older kids. It also helps to develop fine motor skills as the pieces are "velcroed" together and must be "cut" with the cake server. The candles also have velcro.

We love this surprise gift. my daughter was so excited when her aunts bday came and she blew out the candles, she called it a happy cake! so she got one for christmas, and bakes it in her new kitchen oven, she loves putting the candles on and slicing the pieces and serving them, She gets all excited about the Happy cake, lol...I do wish though, like with a few other great puzzles that it had a better box with a lid to store it, the only con.
