I recently purchased this machine because I'm just starting to learn to sew, and couldn't have picked a better machine to learn on. I have made my first quilt and it was so easy. It's a thick quilt and this machine was up to the job. It practically didn't need my help at all. It's very lightweight, so easy to carry to quilting classes. I love that it threads the needle and that I can see the bobbin. The built in light works automatically when the machine is turned on.
The only thing I'd like to see changed is to make the measurement lines easier to see. I'm making half-inch hems but can't really see the marks on the plate so have used other means to mark the half-inch interval. Otherwise it's a great machine.

This has been a very empowering purchase. I grew up with a sewing machine that was so persnickety to thread, we all just avoided the drama of trying to use it- creating stuff was frustrating.
This baby has numbers ON THE MACHINE to guide you through the threading order each time, and it's a cinch. So is bobbin winding and threading, stitch switching, and controlling the useful variable speed function.
I've completed one quilt for my 5 yr old, am almost done with my 7 yr olds, and fixed my 15 year old's ripped swim trunks in a jiffy, instead of having to toss them. It's lovely how impressive sewing is to my children.:) And with this machine, who knows? They may quickly surpass me in skill!
I'm OK with that.

I don't know too much about sewing; basically just hemming pants/jeans for my boys. When I "killed" my Singer featherweight and needed a new machine, I selected this model based on other reviews. It was sooo easy to get started! And I love the automatic threader!! So far I haven't even had to adjust tension as it does it automatically. This machine is so quiet it doesn't disturb others when they are reading or watching TV. In fact, now I've decided to take sewing lessons. With everything my Singer has to offer and it's ease of use, I want to take full advantage!

The reason I bought this machine was because I trust the Singer brand and it is advertised as "automatic threading." Nothing is automatic about the threading. It still has to be done by hand. If you are like me and have trouble seeing, don't fall for the word "automatic." Also, had to take it 90 miles away a month after purchase because the needle was hitting metal while it was supposed to be sewing.
