I really wanted a shape sorter for my daughter & was disappointed when this arrived. The blocks themselves are great - love the bright colors - perfect for sorting games. And, the shapes fit into the slots fine.
However, my main complaint is that the top is TOO easy to remove. When my daughter moves the box to find the slot for the shape, the top slides right out. It really should have some sort of feature that locks it into place while in use. Plus, I wish it was painted also (but, that's a personal preference).
It's a good shape sorter, but not great.

This grandma is always delighted to find the toys I remember my children playing with at home and in kindergarten/preschool--"no batteries required". When I got this shape sorting box, I worried it would be a little advanced for my granddaughter for her 2nd birthday. But she caught on quickly that a shape wouldn't fit just anywhere, and while some were more difficult than others, with a little prompting, she was able to fit them in, and her face had such a sense of accomplishment--she was delighted with herself!

The product information panel should be the bottom panel that slides in and out to retrieve the shaped blocks. This would provide another panel for additional shapes as well as remain secure when rotating the box. As one of the sorting panels is the sliding panel it slides out of the box when turning the box to insert more shapes. This was not well thought out and not up to Melissa and Doug design quality.

I love this for the 18 month I nanny for. I remember having this as a child myself. It's good quality. She loves it. Shapes fit in nicely. Box is sturdy. You can learn, colors, shapes, counting, etc. The side you remove to get the shapes out is easy for a child to do by themselves so they can play with it without adult help.
The only reason I took off 1 star is because the side of the box you open to remove the shapes is a side that has shapes on it instead of a blank side they could have used which they chose to put advertising on. You really need the the side that comes off to be a blank side not a side that has the shapes on it. It's easy to slide back and forth to open, and therefore, harder for a child to put shapes in when it doesn't stay in place well.
If that were fixed, it would be a perfect 5 stars.
