While this is cute in theory, it has its downsides. The first, and most frustrating for my son, is that the peg spacing isn't the same on all cars. If I remember right, the two-hole pegs don't fit on the engine, which frustrates my son to no end. The other issue that bothers me is that when the blocks knock together, paint transfers from one to another. For example, the yellow roof of the engine is now covered in marks of color from other blocks. While that doesn't reduce the play value, it does make this a toy that I won't save to hand down to future generations. Also don't love that it's made in China.

My parents bought this train for my son when he was a little over 12 mos. He's never been all that interested in playing with toys, but this one gets the most attention from him. He can't stack the blocks in order yet, but he loves to take them on and off the pegs and has just recently realized that he can pull the train around the room. We've had it for about a year and it's held his interest and taken a lot of abuse. Overall this has been a very durable, high-quality toy.

My son is a 3 1/2. He 1st played with this train in therapy. Fell in love with it instantly. However that was not the only reason I bought him one of his own. He is learning as he plays. We work on his colors, shapes and play games that help improve upon his communication and social skills. I am very pleased with this purchase. It is solid construction and looks exactly like the picture.

My two year old loves this train. He can sit for hours rearranging the blocks. My only problem with this toy was my son was able to pull out some of the wooden pegs for the blocks. I had re-glue them into the holes. I have never had a quality issue with Melissa and Doug toys in the past. I know they are all handmade so I assume someone was just having a bad glue day. We have given this toy as a gift in the past and that train was secure.
