Rated 1 out of 5 by Cracked Housing Bought this attachment for my wife approx. 15-20 years ago. I think in that time we've used it MAYBE ten times at MAX---and that was usually for shredding cheeses, and maybe 3 times w/zucchini. After shredding fresh (as in SOFT) PEELED zucchini today, housing cracked in 3 places. Called the 800 number, guy polite but basically "too bad, so sad, only warranted for ONE year". Offered me a replacement housing for like $24.99. I just told him we'd go ahead & use my late Mom's counter box grater in the future, and leave the Kitchenaid for "show & tell" sitting on the cabinet!! I gave it a one star rating, as it wouldn't let me POST unless I put something--would've LIKED to use like a NEGATIVE five!! 07/13/2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not good This does not work well. The "stainless" cones rust. It also doesn't shred or slice cleanly pulverizing and turning whatever you try to put through into mush. I thought this would be great to replace a bunch of different gadgets and appliances that grate, shred and slice but I was so wrong! Besides the poor performance some kind of black grease keeps appearing and gets all over the place, on the food, all over my hands, it's everywhere!!!! 07/23/2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Good idea, poorly executed Bought to shred summer squash, returned it hours later. Was shredding some overgrown yellow squash which had somewhat hard skins, and after the first two, the shaft became lodged in the housing and would no longer rotate and could not be removed. I think many of the problems with this attachment start with the fact that the blades are extremely dull. I have butter knives that are sharper. Other people have reported that vegetables are turned to mush rather than sliced -- dull blades. Also, others report stress cracks and broken parts, probably from having to apply more pressure to cut due to the dull blades. This would probably be a decent attachment if the blades were sharp enough to actually cut. I returned mine to Bed, Bath & Beyond, who took it back with no problems and purchased a manual shredder with nice, sharp blades for about $20 less. 07/23/2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Just okay After reading reviews on this product and watching a video on the internet of someone slicing and shredding different items, I decided to purchase the item and see what I thought myself. Like many other reviews, I did not have success with slicing vegetable but I have been happy with how it shreds blocks of cheese (this was my main reason for purchasing). As for the quality of the unit itself, I am not having any issues with it cracking or breaking as other reviews have mentioned. I also have not had any problems with the parts rusting after washing as one review mentioned, but I only hand wash all the parts and make sure to lay them out to completely dry off before storing them. So if you are looking to mostly shred cheese (and like me will not use a hand grater due to a past incident with my finger) I recommend this product. 07/11/2016
