I tried shredding baby carrots yesterday. Some pieces of carrots got stuck between the white housing and the round shredder disk. What did get through the shredder disk were quite shredded, though. I'm concerned about the food waste. I also had large chunks of carrots mixed in with the shredded carrots in the finished product. The white plastic housing held the orange color of the carrots and no amount of washing could get the stain off. This was my first use so I was surprised that no other reviewers mentioned staining or material remaining between the white plastic housing and the round shredder. I will keep working with it, but may return.
Rated 2 out of 5Â by Ang_ela Glorified cheese shredder and poor slicer. DISSAPOINTED
Hubby got this for me for Christmas. We have tried it once. We tried both sizes of slicers on potato and onion. The potato sort of worked. Roughly half the potato was actually sliced. The rest was reduced to pulp/juice. The onion was completely pulped. Perhaps KitchenAid should market this as a juicer rather than a slicer. The fine shredder choked up on the cheese (cheddar) and produced something akin to cheese sprinkles. The coarse shredder did an impressive job and produced beautifully shredded cheese.
Overall, I am very disappointed with the performance of this attachment. I expect something labeled slicer to actually slice.
Rated 4 out of 5Â by Yosemite Sam Poor quality control of shredders and slicers
I have only tried the attachment a few times and found some of the slicers and shredders needed judicious adjustment before they would fit onto the shaft properly (especially shredder #1). That being accomplished, the attachment worked fine shredding very hard cheese and potato.
Oh yes, the shredder left thin pieces of cheese and potato in the shredder but, I don't know of any shredder that shreds everything.
I have only limited experience with the attachment's overall performance but, if you are thinking of purchasing one I would recommend you have someone handy in the house who can make the adjustments to the slicers and shredders.
Rated 4 out of 5Â by Sarah14 Great for cheese and carrots
I love this attachment for GRATING CHEESE.
It does a really fast job, and I have now taken to using it to do a big block of cheese for the begging of the week, and keeping it in a tupperware container for use in my fridge.
I also think it does a great job at doing carrots, especially for carrot cake/muffins, etc.
The attachments aren't great for a lot of softer foods, as it sort of mangles them, and using a mandolin, is kind of necessary for things like cucumbers or etc.
It does a really good job on prepping potato latkes, because it doesn't matter that it turns the potatoes and onions into a goopey mess because of their high water content.
