Very poor design. The attachment has a piece that is supposed to fit into a notch on the mixer and then a screw to tighten the attachment. I have never been able to push the attachment into the mixer far enough to align the holes to tighten it. That results in the attachment falling off during use, and since I tried to tighten it to prevent that, the plastic on the screw even cracked. Certainly not worth anywhere near the price of this attachment. I only give it two stars because the concept would be great if the product actually worked.

I recently purchased my kitchenaid... bought the shredder attachment right away. It does okay with cheese...Does much better after it has been placed in the freezer, as suggested.... Tried to make Cole slaw, and I had to push so hard on the lever to get the cabbage shredded.... Tried to slice onions.... That was horrible... IT MADE NOTHING BUT ONION JUICE!! In my opinion, it should slice through stuff like butter... not turn it into a gloppy, sloppy mess.... what a disappointment.... All my life I have wanted a KA mixer and tools, for such disappointments and hassle....HOW SAD! I should post the videos....

I bought this through a friend that lives in Canada since Kitchenaid Indonesia do not provide this item. Used it once to grate parmesan cheese and it worked great. When I continue to grate edam cheese it worked good for a few minutes and then stopped spinning. There's a sound. I didn't know what's wrong. It just stucked. I couldn't take the cone assembly off the housing. Thank God the mixer's fine. It's just the attachment. I know there's a warranty but if i should send this back to Canada and pay for another shipment back to Indonesia I rather buy another food processor/shredder that is not KA, sorry to say.

I have only used my slicer one time so far. I made a mess the first time I used it because I didn't select the correct slicer cup to attach. I changed it to a thicker slice and it worked great for home made potato chips. I look forward to using it to shred cheese. I was disappointed though that I left the blade part drying over night and found that it had what appeared to be rust spots on it the next morning after only using it one time. I wiped it down and it looks okay now but I will definitely dry it off with a cloth from now on instead of letting it drain on a cloth.
