First of all, 501s are CLASSIC! If they weren't well-made, they wouldn't still be in production. I've been wearing them for over 35 years. The only reason I can't give them 5-stars is they wear out in one particular location way too fast. When I was younger, they wore out in the knees or in the thighs... i.e. the fabric would become threadbare after years of use, and after being relegated to the "work clothes" drawer. Lately, without fail, they wear out in a, ummm, sensitive location... the fabric in the crotch, on the right side of the center seam, right below the fly, always ends up tearing... and unfortunately, before the "work clothes" status kicks in.

I have been wearing the ORIGINAL "shrink to fit" 501 Jean for about 63 years or since I was 4. They have changed over the years but I feel the Levi has tried to stick to the idea of a great looking rugged pair of jeans. If your are a purist and want to feel the jean mold to your body as they will in time. And you are willing to go the process of breaking them in. You will have a pair of jeans that you can not do without. Kohl's is the only place I buy these, but they are a catalog order only. The original 501 jean they sell at the store are NOT "shrink to fit" and it took 30 minutes for the attendant and I to figure that out. He was only 20ish and did not know what I was talking about at first. He said he was going to try them out.

I bought two pair Jeans at KOHLS, one in the store and one online because they didn't have two pair of my size in the store. The pair I bought in the store were made in Egypt and were fine in quality. The pair purchased online were made in Mexico and of very different material and poor quality. I will not be purchasing those Jeans again from KOHLS.
