I work in a kitchen and have to stop constantly to slice tomatoes and onions. I saw this item and thought several things. #1 - It's OXO. I haven't heard anything negative about OXO. #2 - It's small and compact and would fit easily into the storage compartment at work. And #3 - How much easier this would make work, especially during busy shifts! Yeah, it's OXO, and the materials that the item is constructed of are good, but it comes with NO instructions on how to adjust the blade, that's all trial and error. And while I used it to slice onions and peppers paper thin, which was great, it doesn't do squat when comes to tomatoes. It just turned the one that I tried into pulp. Overall, I guess it's an OK item, but I'm sorely disappointed that it doesn't work for what I bought it for.

I've only used my new OXO Handheld mandolin slicer once so far. I was slicing up sweet potatoes to make chips and it was so fast to do. The thickness of the slices varied but I think I was pressing down when moving the potato and it isn't really necessary. I think it will be easier to get uniform slices next time, now that I've used it once. I just need a little practice!
Slicing the sweet potato was effortless - the blade is that sharp. The safety food holder held the potato securely when needed. I did use "no cut" gloves for additional safety though. I found that the white plastic was stained a little by the sweet potato, but I would imagine the same would happen with any other white plastic.
I'm so happy I purchased this. It will make a lot of my vegetable prep so much faster.

I've tried using this several times already with peppers and onions. It won't stay in the level you put it on and if by chance it did stay, once you get down to the end the guard hits the lock and makes it move.

this product is SHARP! I have mixed in a few pieces of skin with my food after using this mandoline! You just have to use the guide piece or know when to discard the last small chunk of food before getting too close to the blade. It's great for slicing veggies for salads but unfortunately only slices. Can't do any other shapes, i.e. julienne, with this. But it's very easy to use, clean and store. Definitely worth the price.
