My 26 year old toaster one morning just gave up the ghost. I read many reviews and decided on this one. The outside is all plastic, so it will not have a long life. It will show it's age, become scratched, and probably break the first time it falls from the counter. Because of the fragile plastic, it has a protected place in the kitchen, not under the counter like it's predecessor. Part of the throw away society.
Rated 3 out of 5Â by Iris5255 previous toaster wasn't heating well. this toaster is no different. heating is not the greatest. you need to preheat empty toaster prior to use or toast twice before eating being careful to not burn. I'm used to preheating because that's what I was doing prior to this purchase.

I set the shade control the same for both toasting sides. They popped up exactly the the same. I used to say "I've yet to find a toaster that I like" Can't say that anymore!

This Black & Decker 4 slice toaster retires our Black & Decker toaster oven which did not, like most other toaster ovens, toast bread evenly on both sides. It became too tedious to keep turning the items over to get an even toasting. This model toaster has metal holders which move in to the item being toasted to hold it equidistant from the heating elements for even toasting. It does a great job on real rye bread, bagels & pumpernickel which are staples in our household. It falls down on Eggos® as by the time they're toasted to my liking, the Eggo has curved at the bottom under its own weight despite the presence of the holders. Win some; lose some.
