Rated 5 out of 5 by From Bowfin Submarine, Pearl Harbor to Our Kitchens I have been wanting to buy a Kitchenaid stand mixer for many many years but was too frugal to spend the money on myself. However, being a person who doesn't hesitate to spend on others, I bought two in a month, one for my husband who is the true baker of our house and one for my mother. This is the most self serving birthday gift I could come up for my husband. Our Mixer brought our family even closer than before. We were so thrilled to see the Great Grand Grand Grand ancestors of our Artie in Bowfin submarine at Pearl Harbor in the same month. We felt so much pride of this true symbol of American technology and invention. And now, we are happy to bring my mother into the club - the proud owner of a love machine that brings family together. 10/26/2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by Down-sizing from Pro to Artisan I told my youngest son, the future pastry chef, that I would give him my Pro line KitchenAid mixer sometime after high school graduation. When I saw him packing it up to take with him, I knew it was time to search for an Artisan line mixer. Finally, in October, a great sale came along that also had an offer for a free glass bowl. I bought a pink mixer which I have always wanted. Since I had my Pro one since 1999, I knew the privilege of "big" and never worried about bread dough coming up, over the dough hook. In my Artisan, I have made cakes, cookies, rolls, breads, etc. The bread making was frustrated by the bowl being too narrow at the bottom, making the dough constantly come up above the flat of the dough hook during the kneading. When my glass bowl arrived, I made a double batch of whole wheat rolls which makes as much dough as the bread recipe. This time, using the glass bowl, the dough didn't come up over the flat ledge of the dough hook the entire kneading time. So glad the glass bowl is wider and deeper! Another concern I have had since the mixer arrived is a grinding sound that it makes when the motor is running on low speeds...since I only have the Pro line for comparison, not sure if this is normal and will ever go away. So, in all, I love the Artisan now! Absolutely love the lift head and easy bowl removal! I even put yellow daisy removable decals on my mixer...everyone who sees it is drawn to it! 12/07/2014
