Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great concept ruined by poor volume I am not one to write negative reviews, but I am very disappointed in this product. It is the top item on my daughter's Christmas list and what a daunting feeling knowing she is going to be disappointed in it due almost entirely to the poor volume of downloaded songs. I am not comfortable having Santa NOT give it to her, but wish we could have tested one out in a store prior to purchase because I can almost guarantee she would have taken it off her list. The volume of recorded songs is so low that you can barely hear the background music over the singing into the microphone(s). You also have to have both your audio device and the toy on full blast volume to even get the bare, disappointing minimum volume, which naturally creates a fuzz. This is unfortunate because the dual microphones are such an excellent idea and the visual appeal of the toy is nice. If you do purchase this toy, I would recommend listening to the "directions" buttons prior to recording, as indicated not in the printed directions, but rather on the back of the product. Also, the "storing ten songs" suggestion is a little misleading. If the child wants to record some of their singing, which they very likely will, they have to override some of the "ten" allotted spaces to do so. Finally, the product description does not make clear the process for downloading songs onto the toy. There is basically an aux cord attached to the toy that will plug into a phone, MP3 player, etc. You do not need any additional accessories to achieve this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great concept; subpar recording quality I bought this before I read NYSoftballMom's helpful review, and decided to test it out to see if it would work for my 6yo and 3yo. I had chosen this one over a more advanced karaoke machine expecting it would be easier for younger children to use. There was a bit of a learning curve for me to figure out how to record a song from my MP3 player to the device. The directions state that once the cable is plugged into the headphone jack of the MP3 player, "the Play/Pause, Previous, and Next buttons on the boombox will function with your connected device." This did not hold true for the Sandisk Clip Sport MP3 player. Each of the ten slots holds up to 4 minutes of recordings, and once a slot has something recorded on it, the slot lights up. Also, the slot to either side light up halfway, even with nothing recorded on them. The recorded songs definitely played quieter than the built-in Trolls song, as well as cut off the first couple seconds of the song. I'm uncertain if my 6yo could learn to record songs from another device just yet, so that will probably be an adult's responsibility. Pros: -it comes with two microphones -it can record your own voice. As NYSoftballMom pointed out, the storing ten songs suggestion is a little misleading, as there are a total of ten spaces for both songs AND recording your voice. The toy suggests using the first five buttons to record songs and the second five buttons to record singing with the songs. -there are three voice-changing effects (echo, robot, and I'm unsure of the third) -the lights are fun Cons: -the chime that plays when the device is turned on or off is loud -Kohl's website states "built-in audio includes songs from the film." It only includes "Get Back Up Again." -the microphones and the cable that attaches to an MP3 player or other device cannot be removed from the toy and therefore irreplaceable. -The recordings cut off the first couple seconds of the song and don't play loud enough.
