The base material of these jeans is a greenish gold. Although the outside surface is dyed blue, as these jeans wear over time, the greenish gold will show through limiting what you can wear with them.

Black jeans are supposed to stay black. I have some very old Lee and Levis jeans (505s) that are still very black after years of wear and washing. Not so for these 514s, which are now dark grey after just a few months. Even worse, they stretch out, especially in the seat. If you can wear them, I recommend the black 511s with 1% elastane (spandex), which hold their shape better. Be careful when ordering, though, since Levis sizing is wildly inconsistent from one style to another. This is one situation where it is advisable to go into the store to try them on, or to order multiple sizes with the expectation of returning all but one of them.

After washing inside out and in cold water there was still a lot of color loss. The denim is quite light and the seams twisted and puckered along with lots of wrinkles over all coming out of a low dry setting. Needing to iron denim jeans is just not right! Sorry Levi, as for my family and me, if this is indicative of the quality you are accepting, we will be moving on! Final word: went from potentially a fav pair of jeans before washing to barely "meh" after.
