They are rugged and more durable than the other 501's. The color is also darker. Lot's of theories about how to shrink them to fit and what size to order. I ordered my husbands normal size, soaked them in hot water, he put them on for about 1 hr when they were almost dry ( I did not use the dryer just hung them to dry). and once all dry he loves them. Online it says to only wash if absolutely needed, well around here that would be weekly. He loves the stiffer and darker feel of these jeans.

I've been wearing 501 shrink to fit since I was in high school. The one thing I've notice, is that the jean material has become thinner and lighter in turn making the life of the jeans about half of what it used to be.

Retail stores stock my size less frequently than in the past but offer them online so I have no chance of inspected the product and testing fit before buying.
I ordered a couple pairs from Kohls.com to replace the pre-washed pairs that are falling apart after years of wear.
They turned out to be shrink-to-fit which you have to order in larger than your usual sizing so they fit after shrinking. There is no mention of this on the Kohls.com's product page for these jeans.
I'm sure they are an excellent product but not what I wanted.

I really cannot review these as they were a gift for a person that I don't even know who had lost everything in a fire in my hometown in MO. However I have purchased other 501 Levi's for my sons and they have always been true to Levi's name, good quality, good fit, wears well, wash well etc.
