I purchased this item to make banana chips , and other foods. I don't eat much beef jerky so I never tried to make it. I made 2 attempts to make banana chips and a batch of pineapple and even apples. I followed the directions and still the bananas came out brown and no matter how think I sliced the bananas, they still came out brown and soggy, not crisp even after 24 hrs.... pineapples was fine, however too burnt but nice and crisp. Apples was a disaster too. after I got my power bill I flipped how much extra I had to pay just for this dehydrator... People might have better results than me however it sure doesn't save money with the increase in your power bill...

We first started making banana chips on the dehydrator. We moved on to strawberries, apples, and kiwi - all of which turned out great. Then we tried cantaloupe and it was awesome. The house smells so good from this dehydrator. Ours has been running pretty much non-stop since we received it in the mail. We are considering a second one and would definitely buy the same one again. This was our first dehydrator and it has met all of my expectations. We set ours on a cooling rack for optimal circulation.

Good for someone learning about dehydrating. Unable to control temperature and airflow. It took over 12 hours to dehydrate Apple chips. the book stated 5 hours. After the 12 hours, they still weren't fully dehydrated so I dried them the rest of the way in an oven set at 200 degrees. Trays do not rotate as stated in the description. I will be purchasing a better machine now that we know that we like our creations. This unit takes too long to dehdrate compared to other machines.

Unlike the description, it does not rotate; but that doesn't really matter to me. It still gets the job done. The guide that came with it was not very useful and seems to drastically over-estimate drying times. I've used it several times and found that the food is usually dry in approx. 12hrs or less, rather than 24hrs which is listed for most items in the guide. So, all in all it does a good job but don't trust the guide. If you want a rotating dehydrator, this is not what you want. It's not broken, there is no rotating mechanism. The quality of the product is good and I would recommend to anyone just getting started in dehydrating. It will hold about 1 large sweet potato or 1 pineapple or 2 large apples or about 1 lb of steak, from my experience (all sliced thin with a mandolin).
