When I first purchased it, I was very excited to make chicken jerky for our dogs. I sliced up chicken breast and laid them out on the trays. After reading the directions on jerky, I realized that I would need to babysit the dehydrator for the next day and a half. Every 2 to 4 hours, the trays had to be rotated. The jerky came out great and the dogs loved it. I made more batches later only to have the trays begin cracking and falling apart. Some of the parts in the trays would fall out when I would wash them. Then after about 8 uses of the dehydrator, the trays all cracked and disintegrated in my hands. From what I can see, you can't get replacement trays at all. You have to purchase an entirely new unit for that. Phooey on that. I went to a different store and bought a fan operated dehydrator and it gets the job done in a few hours....not several hours...and I actually can sleep now because I don't have to get up every 2 hours to rotate trays. Ronco may have some cool items, but this is not one of them. You can't set this and forget it at all.

Had one many years ago and decided to get a new one-same brand. I had good luck with the last one. This one has a lot of room to do many items at once. I dry my own herbs and fruits, and this does a great job for that.

Most foods take 24 - 36 hours, I'm not going to wake up in the middle of the night to rotate and trays and turn them. Just doesn't seem like fun anymore. Also, you need to buy another item to make fruit leather.

This product did not come with instructions on how to use it only a recipe book. It would have been nice to not have to figure out how to use it by method of hit or miss.
