THE MUSIC WAS ENTERTAINING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. HOWEVER, IT USES A LIGHT SENSOR UNDER EACH PUZZLE PIECE TO ACTIVATE THE SOUND. IF MY SON TRYS TO PLACE THE WRONG PIECE IN A SLOT, THE SENSOR IS COVERED AND THE MUSIC FOR THE WRONG INSTRUMENT PLAYS. AND SINCE IT IS ACTIVATED BY DARKNESS, IF YOU ARE MISSING A PIECE, THE MUSIC PLAYS WHEN YOU PUT THE PUZZLE AWAY, TURN OUT A LIGHT, THE SUN GOES DOWN, YOU LAY IT UPSIDE DOWN, ETC, ETC. THERE IS NO ON/OFF SWITCH. WITHIN A WEEK, THE BATTERY IS DYING AND THE MUSIC PLAYS SLOW. I CANNOT TAKE ANOTHER RANDOM RENDITION OF "OLD MACDONALD" THAT IS OUT OF TUNE WHEN I LEAST EXPECT IT. I HAVE TAKEN THE BATTERY OUT. STICK WITH A REGULAR PUZZLE - SAME ENJOYMENT LESS MONEY.

I purchased this puzzle as a gift for my granddaughter's 2nd birthday. Inserted brand new batteries, did not work. Tried another set of batteries...still did not work. Exchanged it for another of the same and it does not work, either. I also see that in very small print on reverse side, it says "light-activated, use in bright light", which I think is ridiculous but even after trying that, there is still no sound!!! Sooo, another trip to store -- this time for full refund!!! And BTW, I do believe that most Melissa & Doug products are overrated & overpriced!

I received this toy as a gift from my daughter's grandparents. Hubby did not know the whole "light activated" thing and I just didn't read the "instructions". First time it startled me then I figured it out. Hubby did not know about the toy and. Last night after he turned the lights off it started playing. Talk about a possessed toy. Anyway, my daughter has little interest in it and the instruments don't sound like the original. Also, if you place the harmonica where the piano is suppose to go it still places. Pretty pointless toy.

I and my family are big fans of Melissa and Doug toys; however, I was completely disappointed in this one. The instruments pretty much all sound alike, with the exception of the xylophone and maybe one other. Your child will NOT learn how instruments sound via this game. Any instrument makes any one of the sounds - they don't have to be placed in their respective places to sound off the right sound. Furthermore, if one of the instruments is held, say, 2 feet away from the puzzle, the sound goes off. It's hard to say which one, considering they all sound alike. Last, but not least, the constant refrain of "Old MacDonald" is extremely annoying. Couldn't they at least have used a different tune for the different instruments? Bottom line: Not recommended, needs lots of work.
