Rated 1 out of 5 by Worked fine until.... I bought this product a few months ago and have been using it constantly. I especially liked it for steaming vegetables. Everything was working great. But when I tried it today, it didn't work. The light came on at first, but after about 10 minutes, I noticed a pungent smell of burned plastic. I went over to check that everything was fine but the light was off. It almost smelled like it short-circuited. 10/16/2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Burning electric smell and cooker stopped working I bought this rice cooker in Dec 2015 and have used it sparingly. This past week, my young son smelt burning electrical odor and luckily alerted me and I unplugged the cooker immediately. I am very careful about not having any water or any debris sticking to the bottom and so am confident that it is not an issue with my usage. I have used B&D rice cookers in the past and have been satisfied and that this one failed in < 1 year is unfortunate. 09/28/2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Defected item!! MAKES A MESS!!! I was so excited about this item!! When i used it the first time i noticed the cook button does not stay on, it only stays on warm. After researching online i found out this was not just my rice cooker, others had the same issue with the cook button. Of course i didnt find out the button didnt work until AFTER i put my rice and water in it, so i made due and found something to put in there to hold the button down so it would cook. There is a hole in the lid that allows steam to come out.....not only steam but white clammy steam that makes a total mess over your kitchen. I will be returning this item for sure. 10/26/2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Shoddy Craftsmanship The cook bowl was slightly warped which prevented the lid from sealing. I was able to press it on the sides to get it round. The cook switch would not engage because the bottom of the cook pan did not sufficiently depress the safety switch. I remedied that by placing a couple of washers on the switch. However, even though I was able to get the thing to turn on, it did not remain on long enough to cook the rice. I had to force it on 3 times and ended up with crunchy rice to serve with my otherwise flawless dinner. I returned it to the store and will not trust Black and Decker for kitchen appliances going forward. 11/17/2014
