I upgraded from the 4.5 quart to this mixer and the glass bowl broke the first month. I thought it was just me! The bowl has functional problems. First - it does not attach to the mixer very well. It takes multiple tries and does not feel sturdy in the base. And as a result of juggling to get in the pour spout hit the machine and it cracked the bowl. I now use my 4.5 quart metal bowl - although the whole reason I purchased was for the larger capacity since I use very often. I did call Customer Service and they are shipping a new one - I just wish I could have replaced with Metal bowl. I am very nervous about using the glass bowl again but really do need the larger size. I am disappointed I will have to ultimately purchase the metal bowl and spend more money - but do appreciate Kitchen aid replacing the broken bowl. I would recommend the mixer but not the glass bowl.

I've had my Kitchenaid mixer with this glass bowl for about 5 months now. While using the mixer the silver cover from the top attachment spot fell down into the bowl while the mixer was on. My bowl immediately Shattered everywhere and the mixer jammed up and stopped turning. I called Kitchenaid customer service and they are sending my a new one since mine was still under warranty. Good job to customer service but this bowl needs to be more sturdy. I am looking into getting the stainless steel bowl now.

I've had this bowl for years and never had a problem... until the plastic piece that holds the base down broke. Now the bowl is useless as far as using it with the mixer. I've looked online to purchase a replacement and can't find one. I can buy replacement lids, but not the plastic base.

Waited a literal lifetime to get my kitchenaid stand mixer. Beyond excited. Came with stunning glass bowl with lid. Then I went to use it. Flour everywhere!! I said: "No problem, I'll just buy a splatter shield". Come to find out, most unfortunately, there is none to fit the bowl. Very tiresome as well as frustrating and truly disappointed. Seems as though I'd have to buy an additional bowl just to be able to then buy a splatter shield to fit said bowl. This makes no sense. One more thing; getting the bowl to sit right in order for it to lock in place should not be as difficult as it is.
