The ice cream maker works great, once you figure out how to use it. The instructions included in the box do NOT match the items actually in the box, aside from the paddle and bowl. If you purchase this item, be prepared to search the Kitchen Aid site with the model number for the correct instructions. Also, depending on the model of your stand mixer, you may need an adapter piece (shown in the picture above, but NOT included in the box). This piece will also need to come from the manufacturer.
Once I navigated trying to get instructions on how to attach it to our stand mixer, I love the item. Be prepared for a little extra legwork if you buy this, though.

We love the ice cream maker attachment. The great thing about kitchenaid is all of their attachments fit all models, so no worries there. It is easy to use. We simply make up our favorite recipe, store it in the freezer for about 30 minutes to get it very cold and then pour into the attachment bowl that has been frozen for at least 24 hours. In 20 minutes we have delicious ice cream.
You do need to make sure the bowl paddle is already turning before adding your ice cream mixture. Turn on the machine to get it started before adding the mixture. You don't want it to freeze in place without running.
I would highly recommend this. It is great to make homemade ice cream with real ingredients! Much healthier than store bought.

I have used mine twice and really like it! I have made the french vanilla in the instruction book and we all loved it. No trouble at all. I love that I can keep the bowl and paddles in the freezer so it is ready when you want to make some more. Can't wait to try fruit sorbets. Take the time to practice putting it together before you put it into the freezer. Like one review said it makes it much easier than doing it when it is frozen for the first time. It is simple. It was nice to know how it worked. I could never get the top attachment to stay but when you put the arm down it stayed, so now that I know that, it is no problem at all.

As received, the square steel drive shaft of the driver head severely impinged on the dasher when the bowl was lifted up. This caused a very wobbly action when rotating. I drilled a 1/4" hole at the point of contact on the dasher to a depth that matched the distance of the from the end of the shaft to the retaining pin. That allowed easier bowl lift and kept the driver centered on the dasher. Works fine now. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
