I bought this version of the tray because the description said that the flip top made it good for pens, ect. I believed that to mean that the top flipped open to reveal a compartment where you could keep pens. That is not the case. The top flips up & there is a metal bar which swings down to keep the tray at an angle. This is probably very good for reading, but I haven't tried it yet. I have no idea why they would say it was good for pens. That doesn't make any sense.
The quality is decent. The table legs tend to fall down while you are carrying it.

I needed this for my husband after surgery, worked well, and plan to use it when displaying cupcakes for my dessert buffet table. Like the ability to use it for your computer/ipad for viewing in a slanted position.

I was worried the legs might be too close for comfort, as I'm overweight. However, that is not the case. This tray works fine for me to use as a "desk" on the sofa for bill-riting and for holding books while I'm reading. Glad I ordered it!
